Benefit Enquiry Line (BEL) for Confidential Advice

This Helpline has now closed. The DWP Welfare Benefit Helpline gave advice on applying for benefits and allowances.

BEL can provide general benefits advice and information, but staff do not have access to any claimant records and are therefore unable to give information on the progress of a claim or benefits you are already receiving. It is a confidential and nothing you ask or say will go on your file.

For certain disability-related benefit claims, staff can arrange to fill in your form over the phone and send it to you to check and sign. The form can be in braille or large print. The service covers carer's allowance, disability living allowance, attendance allowance and industrial injuries disablement benefit.

Ring the enquiry line on 0800 882200 or textphone 0800 243355. Lines are open 8.30am - 6.30pm Monday to Friday and
9am - 1pm Saturday. From your landline your call is free.

Northern Ireland Benefit Enquiry Line (BEL)
Ring 0800 220674 or textphone 0800 243787. Staff give general advice on benefits for disabled people and offer a forms completion service. Lines are open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.
